World’s leading cyclist, from Carrickbeg, ties the knot to his long-time sweetheart
Sam Bennett, (29) from Carrickbeg, yesterday tied the knot with his long-time girlfriend Tara Fogarty.
Sam is the most feared sprinter in the peloton and the cyclist with the most wins in the top ranks of world cycling this year, this despite missing out on some of the bigger races of the year due to team orders.
Yesterday in Cork, Sam married his sweetheart and number one supporter, Tara Fogarty, who is also from Carrick-on-Suir.
The couple married in the Cathedral in Cobh, before celebrating their special day with family and friends at reception at the Castlemartyr Resort.
The pair spend most of their time in Monaco, where they have a home, but Sam can often be found out for a spin on the local roads with members of the local cycling team, Panduit Carrick Wheelers, former mentors and other pro-cyclist from the area.
The affable and grounded Carrick man, who is a fan favourite around the world, is the hottest property in cycling at the moment, racking up 16 wins this season.
Sam, as tough a competitor as former team boss, mentor and Carrick mand – Sean Kelly, recently parted company with his team of the last six years, BORA – Hansgrohe, for whom Sam has amassed close to 40 wins.
There has been plenty of rumour and speculation among the peloton and the cycling world of where Sam will pitch up next season, however nothing has confirmed just yet.
