Woman injured after being struck by jeep while walking in Waterford city

A feamle walker has been injured after she was struck by a car in Waterford city.

The incident occurred at the entrance to the Earlscourt estate on the Dunmore road at 5.25pm.

At the junction of the entrance to the estate, the woman saw a car coming approaching and stopped. She then started to walk as she believed the driver was letting her go.

However, the car then accelerated and struck her as she crossed the road.

The driver of the vehicle, a silver/grey jeep, stopped and asked the woman if she was was ok. When she replied that she “thought” she was, the jeep drove off in the direction of the city.

A local Garda spokesperson confirmed the woman sustained minor injuries in the incident.

Gardai have appealed for the driver of the jeep to contact them. They have also asked anyone who may have witnessed the incident to call Waterford Garda Station on 051 305 300.
