‘We have wrestled back control of the virus’ – Waterford TD hails ‘mighty effort’

A Waterford TD has hailed the “extraordinary” response of the people of the city and county that has resulted in the biggest drop in Covid cases across the country over the past week.

After a worrying recent rise in cases of the virus, the levels of Covid-19 have dropped sharply in recent days, raising hopes Waterford may avoid new restrictions or another lockdown.

Local Sinn Féin TD David Cullinane praised the public’s response in recent days, saying “we have wrestled back control of the virus”.

“The mighty effort by the people of Waterford to reduce the spread of Covid has been extraordinary,” Deputy Cullinane added.

“It has resulted in the biggest drop in cases in the last 5 days It should be encouraged, praised and acknowledged. Continuous speculation from some quarters of the inevitability of Waterford moving to level 3 is unhelpful and untrue.

“Waterford is doing what is needed and we have wrestled back control of the virus. We need to keep it up.”
