Waterford Senator has party whip removed following attendance at Oireachtas Golf dinner
Waterford Senator John Cummins has had the party whip removed from him as the fall-out from the controversial Oireachtas Golf dinner held in Galway on Wednesday night continues.
Fine Gael party leader and Tánaiste Leo Varadkar made the announcement on Twitter in the last few minutes.
In his tweet, Deputy Varadkar said: “In recognition of the seriousness of this matter, I have removed the party whip from Senators Jerry Buttimer, Paddy Burke and John Cummins. Senator Jerry Buttimer has also resigned his position as Leas-Chathaoirleach of the Seanad.”
Earlier, Senator Cummins apologised for his attendance, describing it as “a lapse in judgement.”
Senator Cummins has not responded to queries for further comment from WaterfordNow.ie.
