Waterford Greenway voted ‘Ireland’s Favourite Adventure’
It’s official: Waterford stunning Greenway has been voted ‘Ireland’s Favourite Adventure’.
Our beautiful 46km walking and cycling trail came out tops in the Irish Independent Reader Travel Awards 2020.
Readers cited Waterford’s “stunning scenery” with highlights ranging from the “epic” Ballyvoile viaduct and the “kinda spooky” Victorian tunnel at Durrow to sweeping views of the sea and the River Suir.
Another reader commented: “It’s beautiful and you don’t have to be an athlete to do it.”
Other comments included: “The route is beautiful, renting bikes couldn’t be more straightforward and it is littered with great places to stop, eat and rest. Plus you don’t need to be a fitness freak to get the most out of it.”
Another said: “Best addition to southeast tourism, without doubt… The beautiful outdoors, the wind in your face and your feet tingling – it just makes you feel alive!”
The Greenway beat off stiff competition from the Bray to Greystones Cliff Walk in county Wicklow and Roscommon’s Lough Key Forest Park to win the accolade.
