Waterford gardai called following alleged sideline melee during U-14 Camogie semi-final

A camogie match in county Waterford descended into farce last night after gardai were called to an alleged assault which happened on the sidelines while the match was in progress.

The alleged assault happened during the U-14a County Camogie Semi-Final between Portlaw GAA and Tramore GAA, which was being held at Tramore GAA grounds.

Gardai received reports of an incident at the match at around 7.20pm.

A man in his 40s alleged he was assaulted while watching the game. Gardai confirmed to WaterfordNow.ie that the man had minor cuts and bruises but was not seriously injured.

A second man, again in his 40s, was taken to Tramore Garda Station for questioning and has since been released without charge.

Gardai are currently taking statements from witnesses and the incident is still being investigated.
