Waterford Council paid out €1.8m in claims this year: new figures
The level of insurance payouts made by Waterford City and County Council this year are already significantly down on the level of settlements made in the whole of 2018.
Figures released under the Freedom of Information Act reveal the Irish Public Bodies (IPB), the county council’s insurer, paid out €1.78 million in insurance claims on behalf of the local authority in the first nine months of 2019.
The figure for the whole of 2018 was significantly higher at €2.9 million.
However, nationally there has been a huge increase in claims against Ireland’s local authorities in the first nine months of 2019.
The IPB deals with claims such as slips and trips on footpaths and damage to cars caused by potholes.
