Waterford City River Rescue: We need €10,000 to upgrade defective lifejackets

Local volunteers Waterford City River Rescue (WCRR) need €10,000 for new safety equipment after their current gear was deemed defective.

WCRR, the local non-profit voluntary search and rescue service, are looking to upgrade their lifejackets following the news last month the Irish Coast Guard was standing down 23 in-shore rescue teams over concern about the crew’s lifejackets.

The Irish Coast Guard barred their volunteers from using a Rescue 400 lifejacket, the jacket most crews were using, after deeming there was a problem with the inflation device.

Although the WCRR was not one of the crews stood down, they have started a gofundme page to raise funds to purchase new higher spec Crewsaver Life Jackets, as used by the RNLI crews.

Donations to the voluntary group can be made at  https://www.gofundme.com/f/waterford-city-river-rescue-crbi.
