Patients may have to travel to Cork as Waterford Cath Lab shuts for two days
The Cath Lab at University Hospital Waterford will be closed to patients for two days this week it has emerged, forcing patients from Waterford and the South East to travel to Cork if they require treatment or suffer a heart-attack.
The advocacy group, 24/7 Cardiac Cover for the South East, discovered late yesterday evening the lab at UHW was being shut down on Wednesday and again on Friday.
The group said the current situation is: “Forcing seriously ill patients down to Cork for treatment proving once again the lack of health care in the South East when it comes to having a heart attack.”
WaterfordNow.ie contacted the South /South West Hospital Group who are responsible for the management of UWH, for comment and for reasons as to why the unit is being closed for two days this week however no one was available for comment.
