COVID-19: Waterford careers fair with 700 jobs on offer and salaries of €65k postponed
Organisers of a careers fair in Waterford which had 700 jobs on offer with an average salary of €65,000 has been postponed the event due to Coronavirus.
The jobs exhibition, ‘Back For The Future 2020’ was due to be held in the Tower Hotel this Sunday, March 15 but due to the overwhelming interest, which would have seen up to 2,000 people attend, organisers this morning took the decision to call it off.
Speaking to WaterfordNow.ie, organiser and CEO of Crystal Valley Tech Elaine Fennelly said it was disappointing to call the event off after all the interest from employers and job-seekers, but stressed they had no option.
“It’s only a minor setback for us. Obviously, we cannot say when we will reschedule the fair for, but that is just the manner of things at the moment.
“We had to make the decision. So far over 1,300 people have signed up to attend the fair, we expected more by Sunday and then obviously there would be walk-ins off the street. That could be 2,000 – 2,500 people.
“Onwards and upwards though, the message is out there of what we have on offer in the region, so we will look to do something again when we can,” Elaine (pictured above) added.
More than 40 companies were due to participate with a wide range of jobs on offer including IT professionals, Customer Care and Sales, Engineering, Technical, Financial, Administration, Network Planners, Technicians, HR, Accounting, Facilities and Production, Contact Centres, and Customer Care.
