WATCH: Waterford farmers bid to break world record at Christmas tractor parade

A group of local farmers, many from Waterford, are aiming to regain a world record they set a couple of years ago.

Thousands are expected to turn out to see the sixth annual Christmas Tractors of Carrick-on-Suir parade this evening.

Now in its sixth year, this year’s tractor parade is set to be the biggest and the best so far.

More than 40 tractors and farm machines will be illuminated with over 100,000 fairy light – which they hope will be enough to get their name back in the Guinness Book of World Record.

And it’s not just adults showing off their pride and joy around the streets of Carrick – 50 kids will give the big machines a run for their money and will pedal their illuminated toy tractors around the town first.

The stunning festive tractor display will set off from Pill Road at 6pm this evening. Festivities begin at 3.30pm with Christmas stalls, amusements and Santa’s grotto at New Street car park where the St Vincent de Paul Society will have a toy drop off stand for their Christmas toy appeal.

The event organisers- the Crop Cruisers will be on hand to raise funds during the parade for Carrick-on-Suir Meals Assistance Service and Greenhill Day Care Centre.

Visitors to the town are advised to arrive early and traffic delays are expected between 6pm and 7pm.
