Pride of plaice: Talented Dunmore East student puts her work on the wall

Two young Waterford artists have had their work recognised in competitions.

Sarah Rogers (pictured) designed the winning entry in a special art contest to recognise our region’s ties with the fishing industry.

Her fisheries-themed mural is now displayed at the Sea Fisheries Protection Authority’s Port Office in Dunmore East.

Waterford Walls artist Magda Karol brought the design to life on the wall, with the assistance of Sarah who picked up the basics of art with spray paint while working alongside the artist.

Sarah, a fifth-year student at Ardscoil na Mara, Tramore, is pictured with the mural.

Sarah and her teacher, Emily Campbell, attended a special unveiling ceremony.

Meanwhile Mia Cuddihy, from sixth class in Scoil Mhuire Abbeyside National School, Dungarvan, won a nationwide poster competition to raise awareness of carbon monoxide and the dangers that it can pose in our homes.

Gas Networks Ireland ran the contest in partnership with Junior Achievement Ireland. Mia was presented with an iPad by Gas Networks Ireland for use in her school classroom.
