Two people pass away as US sees record total for third day in a row
Two people lost their lives from Covid-19 in the Republic of Ireland in the last 24 hours, the HSE said this evening.
The total death toll here is now 1,746 while the number of confirmed cases has now reached 25,611 after another 23 were diagnosed.
Meanwhile, meanwhile the US has seen a record daily total of 69,000, setting a record for the third day in a row.
Nine states – Alaska, Georgia, Idaho, Iowa, Louisiana, Montana, Ohio, Utah and Wisconsin – also reached records for single-day infections.
The Governor of Texas, Greg Abbott, said he may have to impose new clampdowns if masks and social distancing cannot stem the rises.
“If we don’t adopt this best practice it could lead to a shutdown of business,” the Republican governor said.
Meanwhile, California announced the state will release up to 8,000 prisoners early after almost half of the 3,300 prisoners in San Quentin State Prison near San Francisco tested positive.
