Tramore woman changing the face of funerals
Derbhile Graham has helped found Ireland’s first-ever professional association for funeral celebrants.
The Tramore woman qualified as a funeral celebrant in March with accreditation to conduct funerals for those not seeking a religious ceremony.
Derbhile and her classmates have founded the Association of Funeral Celebrants Ireland (ACFI), to promote funeral celebrancy as a profession.
People can contact celebrants like Derbhile to arrange a funeral after a loved one has passed away. They can also contact a celebrant to plan their own funerals.
Derbhile says the Covid crisis has posed specific problems. “We’re keenly aware of the impact the restrictions have had on people who have lost loved ones during the pandemic,” she said.
“We want to help people organise memorial ceremonies that will allow them to say a proper goodbye to their loved ones.”
