Thieves damage dream home under construction in county Waterford
A dream home on a beautiful site in county Waterford was badly damaged last week when thieves broke in and ripped the lead off the roof valleys.
More than €2,000 worth of damage was caused to the home, currently under construction, on an elevated site at Crehana, Carrickbeg on the Carrick-on-Suir to Dungarvan Road.
In just the latest of a series of incidents on the site, thieves broke into the site sometime between 9pm on Thursday evening and 8am on Friday last, June 12.
When the crew of the builders, Mansfield Construction Limited, arrived back to the site last Friday morning, they found the flashing in a valley they had just completed the evening before had been ripped off the roof, destroying all the slates that had been laid around the valley also.
The thieves also made off with a full roll of lead. Nothing else appears to be taken during the raid.
In another incident the previous week, people broke into the site again. Nothing was taken on this occasion, but a nest in which Blue Tits had made a home bedside where the builders were working and were ready to hatch was disturbed and destroyed and the birds’ eggs broken.
In another incident on the site number of months ago, a new digger which was on the site was subjected to a break-in attempt, but the vandals failed to gain entry.
