Some good news about UHW for once as Maternity Unit receives a glowing report
University Hospital Waterford standards of care in its maternity unit are among the best in the country.
The latest findings from the Health Information and Quality Authority inspection of UHW’s maternity facility found high standards of care for mothers and babies, effective governance, and good quality leadership and management.
The report did find areas where the maternity department could focus on to improve the service provided to its patients.
The inspections by HIQA took place sometime between August 2018 and September 2019 and out of 25 areas of focus on the obstetrics department, UHW was found to be ‘Complaint’ or ‘Substantially Complaint’ in all but two areas.
These two areas in which UHW were found to be just partially complaint were providing in a physical environment which supports the delivery of safe, high-quality care and protects the health and wellbeing of women and their babies, and ensuring their workforce has the competencies and training required to deliver safe, high-quality maternity care.
UHW was found to be fully complaint in half of all the areas of focus during the inspection.
