Road closed following another serious accident on main Waterford route labeled ‘Road of Death‘
Emergency services have rushed to the scene of yet another crash on one of the main roads to Waterford dubbed “the road of death.”
The N24 road southbound between Carrick-on-Suir and Piltown is currently closed following a two-car collision that happened around 6.20pm at the junction known as the Sweep – the scene of numerous serious incident over the past two decades.
The latest accident happens in the same week a major €5 million upgrade plan to deal with the deadly section of the N24 was unveiled by Kilkenny and Tipperary County Councils.
The plans include the construction of a flyover bridge at the Piltown junction, less than a kilometre from this most recent incident.
Gardai from Carrick-on-Suir and south Kilkenny arrived at the scene within minutes as did an ambulance which happened to be in the Carrick-on-Suir area at the time.
A small multi-people carrier and a 4×4 vehicle were involved in the crash.
Driving conditions in the area were poor at the time of the incident, with a heavy mist and light fog descending.
The N24 southbound between Carrick and Waterford has been closed while the services deal with the collision.
It is unknown if anyone has been injured in the incident.
