Residents warned over arson attacks
Residents in the Mount Sion Avenue area have been plagued by several arson attacks over the last number of weeks.
In the early hours of Sunday morning, a car was set on fire causing damage to two houses, this is following a spate of wheelie bins being set alight recently.
Some residents reported another attempt of setting a car on fire over the weekend.
Speaking on Deise Today with Damien Tiernan on WLRFM, one resident said the estate is a lovely area and there’s a lot of old people living there.
“On Saturday at 4am a neighbour knocked on my door saying the house around the corner was on fire.
“The car in front of the house was set on fire causing a lot of damage.
“People had to get out over the roof and gardens to get out of their houses.
As the houses are small bungalows the only way to escape is out the back of the house and through another neighbour’s garden.”
When the resident got out of the house, she said all she could see was flames.
“I didn’t know how bad it was, whether people were still in the buildings because the flames were coming up over the roofs.
She said somebody could have been badly hurt.
“I’m there 38 years and nothing has ever happened like this.
“There are wheelie bins constantly being put on fire all the time and It’s just not fair there are old people in this area.”
“This person whoever is doing this don’t care who’s is living in the house to do that much damage.”
She now fears for her safety and the safety of her neighbours.
