One person passes away and 17 new cases confirmed

There was one death from Covid-19 in the Republic of Ireland, the HSE said this evening.

The total death toll here is now 1,754 while the number of confirmed cases has now reached 25,819 after another 17 were diagnosed.

Earlier today it was announced that a Dublin doctor had died from Covid-19 three months after he had contracted the virus.

The Mater Hospital in Dublin said Dr Syed Waqqar Ali was a frontline healthcare worker who provided selfless emergency care to Covid-19 patients at a number of hospitals as a locum during the pandemic.
