One arrested on drugs charges and four cars seized in series of Garda raids in Waterford
One person was arrested for sale and supply of drugs, and four cars were seized as part of An Garda Síochána’s Operation Storm in Waterford yesterday.
Members of the Waterford An Garda Siochána from all units including Detective Units, Protected Services, Traffic, Drug Unit, Armed Support Unit and Dog Units were joined by officers from Customs, Dept of Social Protection and the Road Safety Authority in the day of action.
As part of the operation 10 multi-agency checkpoints were put in place around the Waterford District concentrating on the main arterial routes and numerous beat patrols were conducted in business and residential areas.
Two school visits took place which included members from the Garda Dog Unit, while two Information stands were set up for the public to access.
As a result of ongoing investigations, three premises were searched under warrant which resulted in a number of drug seizures including detection for the sale and supply of drugs.
A further two arrests were made for driving under the influence of Drugs; Customs officers detected five vehicles illegally using green diesel; four cars were seized for having no valid insurance/tax offences; five people and their vehicles were searched vehicles under Misuse of Drugs legislation, of which four resulted in possession charges; while a further 36 interviews were carried out by officers from the Dept of Social Protection with a number of these cases requiring follow up investigation.
