On track: funding for new market at Tramore station

A new look is coming down the tracks for Tramore’s railway station. The Government has contributed €40,000 for the creation of an outdoor market space on its grounds.

The funding is coming from the Town and Village Renewal scheme. Almost  €138,000 has been allocated to Waterford city and county from the scheme,  with €97,774.54 going to projects in Dungarvan, Passage East, Touraneena and An Gaeltacht.

Tramore’s railway station is a heritage building which dates back almost 200 years. The train service there ceased in 1960. It is being brought into community use in stages.

Green TD and Tramore resident Marc Ó Cathasaigh describes the old railway station as an architectural gem. “There is still a large amount of work to be done to restore this unique and historic building to its former glory,” he said. “But I am confident that the funds will be made available.”
