Off the menu: West Waterford Festival of Food forced to cancel
One of county Waterford’s largest and most anticipated annual events has had to cancel its festivities for 2020 due to Covid-19 guidelines.
The West Waterford Festival of Food, which was set to run for two consecutive weekends on September 25 and October 2, has this morning announced it will not be going ahead this year.
Organisers of the festival, which is split over two differing food experience weekends, a Wild Weekend for foraging, hill walking and natures finests, and a Dining Weekend to sample the best of local produce, made the difficult call just as tickets for the event were to go live.
In a statement released by organisers this morning, a spokesperson for the festival said: “After a lot of thought and consideration, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the West Waterford Autumn Festival of Food.
“This is incredibly disappointing for all those involved — the organisers, funders, sponsors, producers, chefs, makers, supporters, venue hosts, friends, volunteers and visitors.
“The revised autumn version of the much-loved West Waterford Festival of Food, originally due to take place in April, was to see small groups safely enjoy the region’s food in line with Government guidelines.
“However, in light of recent changes to guidelines around group gatherings and the cancellation of our WaterFood2020 sister festivals — Waterford Harvest Festival and Vitamin Sea — we have made the very difficult decision to also cancel our programme of over 50 events,” the spokesperson concluded.
