New ‘two-for-one’ free parking scheme gets underway in Waterford city
A new plan to get people back shopping in Waterford city post the Covid-19 pandemic got underway today.
All parking spaces in and around the city will run on a ‘Pay the first hour, get the second hour free’ basis. The special offer is available from today up until July 31.
Waterford City Council has worked in partnership with all car parking providers across Waterford city to provide this free hour of parking and is supported by all providers including Clock Tower car park, City Square car park, Euro Car Parks, iPairc, Port of Waterford and Waterford City and County Council.
The purpose of the initiative is to encourage people to Shop Waterford and Support Local. The council hopes that by adding a second hour free parking, shoppers will take a little extra time in the city-centre to do some non-essential retail therapy as well as essential item shopping.
The offer extends to all car parks both surface and multi-storey including City Square and all Waterford Council car parks at Millers Marsh, Waterside, Bolton Street and Jenkins Lane. All car parks along The Quays will offer the rate and any on street parking in the City Centre is also included. Normal parking restrictions will apply to the duration of dwell time and daily rates will not be affected by the initiative.
