New homes and shops to be built on derelict site of burnt out bar in Waterford city
A derelict pub in Ballybeg that has fallen into ruin since it was destroyed in a blaze almost a decade ago is finally going to be demolished and replaced with badly needed new housing.
Waterford City and County Council planners have given the green light to the new development at the site of Ryan’s bar in the centre of Ballybeg.
The pub was destroyed by fire nine years ago and the site has since become an eyesore and a magnet for anti-social behaviour over the years.
Now the building will finally be demolished to make way for a new housing and retail development planners hope will transform the area.
The development by Waterford company Dalira Ltd will consist of two and four-storey buildings.
It will also see the creation of 390 square metres of new retail space for Ballybeg at ground level. On the upper floors Dalira will build 25 two-bed apartments, 14 one-bed apartments and six studio apartments.
