Multinational company looks to expand Waterford campus, may create up to 400 new jobs
A global multinational company that recently set up a base in Waterford and created up to 150 jobs is looking to expand its facility.
West Pharmaceutical Products Ireland Limited has applied to Waterford City and County Council for an extension to the planning permission they were granted five years ago to build a campus at Knockhouse Lower just off Waterford’s Ring Road.
The US pharma giant completed construction of the majority of their campus back in July 2018 and since then have been creating packaging components for insulin injector cartridges and other high-value packaging components, in order to meet growing demand from pharmaceutical and biotech customers.
The existing 20,000 sq mt facility currently employs around 150 people. The application for extension would allow West Pharmaceuticals to construct the remaining 6,500 sq mts at the facility approved in the original approval granted back in 2015.
West Pharmaceuticals on announcing their project in Waterford announced that once the whole campus is completed it could facilitate 400 or more workers.
A decision on the application is due from the local authority by the middle of July.
