More than 1,000 students expected to try it before they buy it at WIT

More than 1000 second-level students are expected to register for Try WIT events by early next year.

Already, over 750 students have booked into events to help them decide which courses they should sign up for already with more dates to follow.

There are several events next week between December 9 and 11 that still have spaces available, including Try Social Science, Try Hotel, and Try Science and Try Languages.

“Our Try Social Science event is a wonderful opportunity for prospective students to explore and debate contemporary social issue from many perspectives within social science,” lecturer Michael Tobin Lecturer says.

“If you are interested in understanding the forces that shape the world today, this event is for you. Students will engage with the knowledge and tools required to allow them make a difference in the world. All aspects of the course, college life and career opportunities will also be discussed.”

Try WIT events are open for application at www.wit.ie/trywit. Already five Try WIT events have taken place, and of the 11 remaining, three are already fully booked.

This year WIT has expanded the number of discipline-specific ‘Try’ events where second level students will have the opportunity to try out areas they interested in studying at third level.

By early next year altogether 1,000 students will have attended more than 16 events including: Try Music, Try Computers, Try Nursing, Try Architecture, Leaving Cert Music Day, Try Law, Try Business, Try Engineering Technology, Try Sport, Try Art, Try Social Sciences, Try Hotel, Try Languages, Try Theatre Studies, Try Science, Try Gaeilge.

Next week’s Try Science has a handful of places left in Physics and Food Science which incorporates biology and chemistry.

Also taking place in December is Try Hotel, which is very interactive will give the student the chance to dip into the world of hospitality in areas like Reception, Fine Dining, Bar service, Flambé work and the art of Cocktail Making, giving a real insight to the glamour of this exciting and different career choice.
