Local hospital begins treating patients recovering from Coronavirus
A hospital that will cater for Waterford people convalescing from the effects of the Coronavirus is ready to accept its first patients as of today.
St Brigid’s Hospital in Carrick-on-Suir will be used as a step-down facility for people in the South Tipperary and East Waterford areas who are recovering after being admitted to Intensive Care Units after contracting Covid-19.
St Brigid’s has an excellent reputation and is used mainly in the treatment of over 65’s, respite care and as a step-down facility.
The hospital can cater for more than 20 patients and is understood to have been preparing for this eventuality for a number of weeks.
Several exisiting patients who were well enough have since been discharged. More beds were sourced from other hospitals for patients who were not well enough to be discharged.
