LATEST: Waterford shooting connected to gang fued, gardai appeal for information

Gardaí in Waterford have renewed their appeal for information following yesterday’s shooting incident in the city in which a man was seriously injured.

A man in his 30s was shot several times outside the Eight2Eight convenience store at the Mount Suir Apartments on Carrickphierish Road at around 2.15pm.

He was rushed to University Hospital Waterford (UHW) where he remains in a critical condition.

No arrests have yet been made and gardai have renewed their appeal for witnesses or anyone with information that could help their investigation to come forward.

A Garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí are appealing to anyone who was in the Carrickphierish Road area, near the Mount Suir Apartments, between 1pm and 2.30pm to come forward. They are particularly appealing to motorists with camera footage (including dashcam) from the area to make it available to investigators.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Waterford Garda Station on 051 305 300 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111.”

The shooting, the first in Waterford for over a decade, is believed to an escalation of an ongoing feud in the city.It is understood armed response units have been called to incidents in the area a number of times. A house on the Kilbarry halting site was set on fire last month and two houses were firebombed in the early hours of August 7.
