LATEST: Man charged in connection with death of father in county Waterford
A 21-year-old man today appeared before court charged with assault causing harm to his father at a house in Portlaw in the early hours of yesterday morning.
Stephen Butler, with an address at Ramsgrange, New Ross in Co Wexford, appeared before a special sitting of Carrick-on-Suir at lunchtime.
He was charged with assault causing harm under Section 3 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Persons Act, to his father John Butler, at Brown Street, Portlaw on Saturday.
The court heard the accused made no response when charged.
Judge Terence Finn was told the State would be objecting to any bail application on the basis of the seriousness of the charge and the likelihood of a more serious charge.
Mr Butler was remanded in custody to appear before the court in Carrick-on-Suir again on January 16.
An application for free legal aid was granted.
