Fisherman who died after trawler sank off coast of Waterford is named, search for second man suspended

The search operation for a fisherman who has been missing after a trawler sank off the coast of Waterford last night has been suspended. It is due to resume first thing tomorrow morning.

Meanwhile, a second fisherman who died at University Hospital Waterford after being rescued has been named locally as Joe Sinnott. Mr Sinnott, aged 65, was a well-known fisherman from the Kilmore area of County Wexford.

RNLI crews and the Coast Guard took part in the search today for the missing man who was on board when the Alize trawler sunk off the coast of Hook Head.

The naval vessel LÉ Ciara arrived at the scene earlier today and took command of the operation.

The R116 helicopter based in Dublin along with the Waterford-based R117 helicopter also assisted in the seach.

Some debris from the stricken vessel was recovered from the sea and diesel was also found on the water.
