Last orders: Final decision due on Wetherspoon’s plans to set up in Waterford
A final decision on whether a giant UK pub chain can go ahead with plans to build a bar in Waterford city centre is due before the end of the month.
JD Wetherspoon has applied to Waterford City and County Council to build a bar at Broad Street as part of it €200 million expansion plan between the UK and Ireland.
The bar, if given the go-ahead, would be built on the site of the old Permanent TSB building and the Schooz4Kidz store on Arundel Square.
Recently city planners went back to JD Wetherspoon asking for further information regarding the location of a goods lift and a query about a Georgian sash window.
That information has now been sent back to the council by the pub chain and a final decision on the development is expected by Wednesday, February 26.
Late last year the UK pub giant confirmed their intention to proceed with the Waterford bar as part of their €200 million pub and hotel expansion plan, which they said will create up to 10,000 new jobs.
JD Wetherspoon are also looking to expand into the Galway and Dublin markets as well as UK cities such as London, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Birmingham and Leeds.
