Green light for new boutique hotel in Waterford city centre
Plans for an exciting new addition to Waterford city’s tourism sector have been given the green light.
Waterford County Council has just approved the plans for a 31-bedroom boutique hotel in the centre of Waterford City.
The hotel will stretch between the Quay onto O’Connell Street and will be built on the site of the former Handmade Furniture Company building, or more recently, Tastefully Irish.
The new boutique hotel is being created by a company called Jarita Limited, which also owns the Strand Hotel in Dunmore East.
The buildings where the new hotel will be built, at 44 Merchant Quay and 35 O’Connell St, are protected structures. Waterford County Council granted permission to create the four-storey hotel allowing internal alterations to link all three buildings.
The new hotel will have a bar/lounge area along with kitchens at ground floor level. The first floor will also have a restaurant and kitchen, along with the hotel reception and lounge area, as well as an external deck and nine bedrooms.
The second floor will house a venue for hosting functions, exhibitions or conferences as well as 11 guest bedrooms.
The third floor will hav e a further 11 bedrooms.
There will be modifications to the exterior facades consisting of replacement windows, new window openings and alterations to shop front at number 44 Merchants Quay.
