Green grocer: Waterford supermarket looking towards sustainability
A supermarket in a county Waterford town is looking to reduce its carbon footprint with an innovative project.
SuperValu on The Quay in Dungarvan has applied to Waterford City and County Council to install a solar panels on the roof its store.
The town centre supermarket, owned by Garvey’s, has lodged an application with the council looking to install more than 27,500 sq feet of solar panels on the low pitched roof of their store.
The area covered would run parallel to Carbery Lane and cover the roof of the building constructed in 2000 linking the buildings from the entrance on Main Street back to Devitt’s Quay.
A decision on the eco-friendly application is due by the end of June.
