Gardai swoop on man (28) suspected of Waterford break-ins
A man has been arrested in connection with a spree of burglaries that took place in county Waterford over a ten-day period in 2018.
The 28-year-old man has also been arrested on similar offences which happened in county Cork during the same period.
During the course of the burglaries and subsequent escape, the suspect rammed two cars which were occupied at the time, one of which was a garda car. The man managed to escape at that time.
A Garda spokesperson said: “On Tuesday, February 25, 2020, Gardaí arrested a 28- year-old man in Mallow, county Cork on suspicion of being involved in numerous burglary offences across counties Cork and Waterford on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 and Friday, May 11, 2018.
“The man is currently being detained at Mayfield Garda Station under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act 2007.
“On Friday, May 11, 2018, following reports of a number of burglaries in the Southern Region, a Garda operation was implemented in an attempt to intercept and arrest a suspected offender.
“The man fled the scene in a car and collided with two occupied vehicles (one of which was a Garda vehicle). No injuries were reported during the incident,” the spokesperson concluded.
Gardai say investigations are ongoing.
