BREAKING: Garda hospitalised after he was bitten during disturbance in Waterford city, young man in custody

A local Garda was hospitalised after he was bitten on the hand as officers attempted to arrest a young man in Waterford city this evening.

The incident occurred on The Quay at around 4.50pm.

A Garda source told WaterfordNow.ie officers had been called to the scene following a disturbance.

A confrontation ensued, during which an officer was bitten on the hand.

A young man was arrested at the scene and taken to Waterford Garda Station, where he remains in custody.

The injured officer was taken to University Hospital Waterford for treatement.
