Dozen cars broken into at Waterford Hospital overnight, man (20s) arrested
A man in his 20s is being questioned after a dozen or more cars were broken into in Waterford city overnight.
Gardai received a report that a car had been broken into to that was parked outside University Hospital Waterford (UHW)at 4am.
Once they arrived at the hospital, they noticed more cars with broken windows that had been broken into.
Roughly an hour later, gardai came across a man in a residential estate close to UHW. He was arrested and was taken to Waterford Garda Station for questioning.
Gardai also recovered a number of items they believe were stolen during the break-ins.
A local Garda spokesperson told WaterfordNow.ie: “There is one person in custody in Waterford Garda Station. He is currently being questioned in relation to the incident.
“The incident was reported at 4am this morning and the arrest followed shortly afterwards.
“We have property recovered, so if anyone is looking to see if there are items missing from their cars, they can contact us here at the Garda Station.
“At the moment there are approximately a dozen cars we know of that have been broken into, but we are still receiving calls.
“We just want to remind people to take valuables out of their cars when they are parking them or leaving them overnight,” the spokesperson added.
