Debenhams workers in Waterford to hold fresh protest as TD offices and banks face pickets

Former Waterford Debenhams workers will hold another day of action today  with the Dail, TD offices and banks all facing pickets.

The workers particularly want to meet  leaders of Fianna Fáil, Fine Gael and the Greens to ask this be made a red line issue in Government formation talks.

One group of workers will bring their case to the Dáil at 11.30am, while others will hold local protests in constituencies, including handing letters in to TD offices or picketing local branches of Bank of Ireland, which part-owns Debenhams.

“All actions will adhere to social distancing guidelines and take place from 11.30-12.30,” a statement says.

“Up to 2,000 workers lost their jobs last Thursday when the company was formally liquidated. The workers are angry and disappointed they had no voice in the court.

“The workers believe that approximately half the stores are profitable and the online business is still active.”
