CORONAVIRUS UPDATE: HSE trying to trace contacts of patient being treated for Covid-19 in UHW

The HSE is trying to trace all contacts of the patient who is being treated for Covid-19 in University Hospital Waterford.

It is believed the man has been in the hospital for a number of days and is being treated in the Dunmore Wing in the hospital where 21 single rooms has been isolated to treat cases of the disease.

Last night, WLR reported that it was the first case of the virus detected in Waterford.

The visitor ban which was introduced last week remains in place.

Speaking on last night’s Prime Time, Minister for Health Simon Harris said that “more restrictions”, including the closure of schools, may be introduced to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

Mr Harris added that any new restrictions need to be “introduced at the right time” to ensure they have the best effect.

He said the reality was “this is not Fortress Ireland” and that “we can’t fool ourselves” this country can avoid the virus.
