Coastguard helicopter rescues man injured while fishing off Waterford coast
A fisherman has been rescued by the coastguard helicopter after sustaining injuries while on a trawler off the Waterford coast this morning.
At roughly 8.15am, the Irish Coastguard in Dunmore East responded to a call for a medical evacuation of a trawler which was located around 40 miles south of Dunmore East.
AN air and sea rescue was launched, and as the lifeboat from the fishing village was launched, the Coastguard Helicopter, Rescue 117 prepared itself for take-off from Waterford Airport.
The helicopter arrived at the scene first and managed to wench the injured man off the trawler. He was then rushed to University Hospital Waterford. The lifeboat was stood down and returned to its base.
The seriousness of the mans’ injuries are not know at this time.
