Coastguard Helicopter in dramatic rescue of seriously injured man (22) from Waterford cliffs
A young man had to be rescued by the Coastguard Helicopter after suffering serious head injuries following a fall down a cliff in county Waterford overnight.
The Coast Guard Helicopter Rescue 117 based at Waterford Airport made the dramatic rescue of a 22-year-old man from the Tramore area who fell onto cliffs at the popular swimming spot the Guillamenes just after 6.30 am this morning.
Waterford gardai were made aware of the incident and contacted the Tramore Coast Guard rescue who arrived at the scene at 7.30am.
The ground crew made an assessment of the situation and the decision was made to call Rescue 117 due to the inaccessibility of the location where the man landed.
The helicopter arrived at the Guillamene’s at 8.03am when they winched the man into Rescue 117 and brought him to Waterford Airport. He was then met by an ambulance and rushed to University Hospital Waterford.
The young man received serious injuries to his head but is said to be in a stable condition.
