Cheers! UK pub giant finally gets go ahead for new bar in Waterford city-centre

A giant UK pub chain has finally been given the go-ahead for its ambitious plans to build a new bar in the centre of Waterford City.

JD Wetherspoon plans for the old Permanent TSB building and the Schooz4Kidz store on Arundel Square have been given the go ahead by Waterford City and County Council.

Planning was granted this week subject to 11 conditions, including alterations to the planned roofed terrace, alterations to the plans for the smoking area, and the relocation of the bar among others.

The UK pub giant has consistently reconfirmed their commitment to proceed with the Waterford bar as part of their €200 million pub and hotel expansion plan, which they said will create up to 10,000 new jobs.

JD Wetherspoon are also looking to expand into the Galway and Dublin markets.
