Cabinet moves entire country under Level 5 lockdown for six weeks

The Government has confirmed the country will move to Level 5 restrictions with some exeptions from midnight on Wednesday for an initial period of six weeks.

The Level 5 restrictions will then be reviewed after four weeks.

Confirmation of the far tougher lockdown measures were signed-off during a Cabinet meeting at Government Buildings tonight.

Schools are also set to remain open under the new plan.

Construction will remain open under the plan, but people will also only be able to exercise within five kilometres of their homes.

People will be able to meet up outdoors with one other household away from their home for things such as exercise, within the 5km limit.

Weddings will stay at 25 guests until the end of the year.

RTÉ is reporting that the GAA inter-county championships, elite sports and horse racing can take place during the new restrictions, but this has not yet been confirmed.

More details to follow.
