BREAKING: You only swing when you’re winning – Maria Bailey axed from FG election ticket
Fine Gael have deselected ‘Swing gate’ TD Maria Bailey from their ticket ahead of the next General Election.
According to a statement published on her Twitter account, the TD for Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown has been “deleted as a candidate for the next general election” by the Taoiseach Leo Varadkar.
The party’s National Executive Council met in Dublin earlier this evening after members in her constituency called for an urgent review of the candidates in October.
Ms Bailey had taken a personal injuries claim against a Dublin hotel after falling off a swing in the Dean Hotel.
In her statement, she said: “I am disappointed that the National Executive have come to this decision, which I will now take time to reflect on.
“My personal injury case which dates back to 2015 was prior to me becoming a TD: however, I was a Fine Gael Councillor at the time.”
