BREAKING: Man rushed to hospital after shooting in Waterford city

A man has been rushed to hospital after he was shot several times in Waterford city.

The chaos unfolded in the Carrickphierish Road area of Gracedieu at around 2.15pm.

A Garda source confirmed to WaterfordNow.ie the victim was rushed to University Hospital Waterford (UHW) where he is being treated for his injuries, which are believed to be serious but not life threatening.

Streets around the scene of the shooting have been closed off for technical examination by the Garda forensics team.

No arrests have yet been made. Gardai are currently carrying out house-to-house enquiries as a full scale investigation into the shocking incident gets underway.

Gardai have appealed to potential eyewitnesses or anyone who may have noticed any suspicious activity in the area at the time to contact Waterford Garda Station on 051 305 300.
