ALERT: Waterford bank customers warned of new text scam

Waterford gardai have urged local bank customers to be aware of a new text scam doing the rounds.

The latest scam targets AIB customers. In the text, the fraudsters falsely claim the receiver’s bank account has been frozen, and that “urgent action” is required to restore it.

Gardai have again urged bank customers to be alert to ongoing scams.

They issued the following advice:
• Never click a link in an unsolicited text;
• Never give away personal data like your PIN, card numbers and passwords;
• A financial institution would never request a customer to update their account details via text message.

A Garda spokesperson added: “If you have been a victim of such scam, report it to An Garda Síochána. Thank you to our followers who alerted us to various messages received.”
