BUDGET UPDATE: Crisis talks at Waterford Council go down to the wire
A meeting of Wateford City and County Council aimed at averting a full blown budget crisis has still failed to reach agreement.
Waterford’s 32 councillors are meeting in City Hall tonight in a bid to break the budget impasse.
If agreement on the 2020 Budget cannot be reached, Waterford City and County Council would effectively go into administration.
Today’s meeting began at 3pm and has already been adjourned three times, with no agreement yet in sight.
Green Party, Labour and some Independent councillors made amendments to the budget put forward by council CEO Michael Walsh. They recommended a 2.5% rates increase instead of the 5% proposed by Mr Walsh, but this was rejected by a majority councillors.
