Wetherspoons to open Waterford pub in New Year as part of €200m investment
Wetherspoons is set to finally open its new pub in Waterford in the New Year.
The UK pub giant this week confirmed the Waterford bar is key part of a massive €200 million investment in pubs and hotels in Ireland and the UK which will create up to 10,000 new jobs.
Wetherspoons, which is known for its cheap food and cut price drinks offering, will open its Waterford outlet on Arundel Square, directly across from City Square.
Most of the investment will be channelled into developments in small and medium-sized towns, but will also include larger towns and cities.
These are set to include new pubs in Waterford, Galway and Dublin, along with major UK cities such as London, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Birmingham and Leeds.
Wetherspoons founder and chairman Tim Martin said: “We are looking forward to opening many more new pubs as well as investing in existing pubs over the next four years.
“We are especially pleased that a large proportion of the investment will be in smaller towns and cities which have seen a decline in investment in recent years.
“The fact that we will be creating approximately 10,000 jobs is great news too.”
