BREAKING: 17 arrested in major Garda crackdown on criminals in Waterford
Seventeen people were arrested in Waterford today as part of a major Garda operation targeting criminals in the city and county.
Members of the force from all divisions in the Waterford district were involved in the latest Operation Storm, which is aimed at preventing crime and dealing with outstanding warrants and summonses.
Seven people were searched under the Misuse of Drugs Act. Two detections were made for possession for the purposes of sale or supply and two for drug possession.
Gardaí also executed 10 bench warrants which had been issued by the courts, and three arrest warrants relating to the breaches of bail conditions.
Three vehicles were seized for having no insurance or tax, and 11 checkpoints were mounted at different locations in the county.
As well as the criminal investigation elements of the operation, three stands were erected in different parts of the city which outlined various crime prevention measures for members of the public.
A local Garda spokesman said in a statement: “Operation Storm is a high-visibility, targeted tactical deployment of all operational resources in the Waterford District, designed to prevent crime, disrupt criminal activity, apprehend criminals wanted on warrant, enhance road safety and bolster good public relations through education and awareness over the course of one day.”
