Waterford hotels welcome support but fear more help will be needed

As they face tighter Covid restrictions, Waterford’s hotels are hoping new Government supports can keep their businesses afloat.
Hotels and guesthouses here have welcomed the range of measures announced in the Budget but fear more help will be needed before the year is out.

Colm Neville, chair of the Irish Hotels Federation (IHF) South East branch, has welcomed in particular the extension of employment supports to the end of 2021.

He also welcomed the rates waiver scheme and  the reduction in the tourism VAT rate, which he said would help aid the recovery of the industry.

Mr Neville said the new Covid Restriction Support Scheme, the Tourism Business Support Scheme and funds for tourism product development, were a recognition of the challenges being faced by businesses.

He “cautiously welcomed” the extension of the local authority rates waiver to the end of the year but said the IHF would be raising this measure with the Government again “if as expected, Covid restrictions are still in place at the end of the year”.
