Up the yard: new sponsorship at Tramore racecourse

A Waterford company is introducing a new type of sponsorship to Tramore racecourse – with prizes for grooms and ‘best turned out’ stable yards.

FormaHoof will award €50 to the winning grooms of 63 races scheduled until the end of 2020.

It will also create  a ‘best turned out’ stable league with a prize of €1,000 for the yard at the top.

FormaHoof manufactures a mould system that repairs and protects a horse’s hoof.

“Given our racing connections and the opening of our new global headquarters in Waterford, a partnership with Tramore racecourse is the perfect collaboration,” said chief executive Alexander Papantoniou.

The company is also sponsoring races on July 25 and August 13.

Owen Byrne, General Manager of Tramore Racecourse, said grooms are the backbone of this industry and it was good to see their hard work being recognised.

“With an incentive of €1,000 to the yard with the most best turned out prizes in the year I am sure there will be even more effort put into the horse’s appearance,” he said.
